Customising Granite Worktops
Every granite slab is naturally unique, and there's a wide range of ways to tailor a granite worktop further -- from colour and edge profile to finish, engraving and even waterfall edges.
Colour Options
Popular choices include classic black for a dramatic contrast against light cabinetry, warm white to brighten a space, rich browns for a cosy feel alongside wooden cabinetry, vibrant blues for a bold contemporary look, and sophisticated greys as a versatile neutral. Matching undertones to your existing cabinetry and walls -- warm golds and ambers with warm-toned cabinets, cooler greys and blues with cool-toned schemes -- helps create a cohesive look.
Edge Profiles
- Bevelled edge: A sleek, angled cut that also helps disguise chips or wear over time
- Bullnose (rounded): A smooth curved edge, ideal for households with young children
- Full bullnose: Rounded on both top and bottom for a comfortable, flowing look
Finish Types
A polished finish is glossy and enhances colour and pattern, is easy to clean, but shows fingerprints and can be slightly slippery when wet. A honed finish gives a matte, contemporary look that hides smudges better but is more porous and needs more frequent sealing. A leathered finish adds a textured, tactile surface that hides marks well but is more involved to clean due to its texture.
Further Personalisation
Beyond colour and edge, granite can be personalised with laser engraving (initials, dates or motifs), waterfall edges that extend the worktop material down the side of an island or cabinet run for a striking, seamless look, custom thickness (standard is 20-30mm, adjustable for a bolder or sleeker appearance), and worktop extensions that double as extra seating or workspace.
