Joinery & Carpentry Services in Nottingham

Nottingham Joinery started as a traditional joiner and cabinet maker's workshop 39 years ago, and that trade is still built in the same workshop today, alongside our newer kitchen, stone worktop and spray finishing work. Traditional joinery and carpentry covers bespoke staircase design, renovation and installation, bespoke hardwood external doors, fitted wardrobes, bespoke bedroom and office furniture, and engineered wood and luxury vinyl tile flooring.
Everything is built to measure in our own workshop by City & Guilds trained joiners and cabinet makers, then installed by the same team -- not handed off between a designer, a joiner and a separate fitter. We also take on wider building work where a joinery project needs it, including loft conversions, extensions and structural changes.
Much of what we build sits in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire's older housing stock -- Victorian villas, Edwardian semis, converted period properties -- where a genuinely bespoke approach matters more than it would in a new-build with standard room dimensions, though we build for both in equal measure.

How a Joinery Project Runs
- 1. Free consultation: We visit and talk through your requirements, whether it's a single piece of furniture or a full staircase replacement.
- 2. Design and written quotation: We agree a design and provide a detailed, itemised quotation.
- 3. Workshop build: Your joinery is built to measure in our own workshop, using solid timber and, where practical, FSC-sourced materials.
- 4. Installation: Our own team installs the finished work, coordinating any remedial building work the job needs.
- 5. Sign-off: We walk the finished work through with you and confirm the guarantee or warranty terms agreed at quotation stage.
How Joinery Projects Are Priced
Joinery work varies enormously by project -- a single fitted wardrobe is a different job from a full staircase replacement or a house extension -- so every quotation is written and itemised after a free consultation and site survey. Larger projects are usually staged, with a deposit agreed at acceptance and the balance due on completion.
Bespoke Joinery vs. Flat-Pack or Off-the-Shelf Furniture
| Nottingham Joinery (bespoke) | Flat-pack / off-the-shelf | |
|---|---|---|
| Fit | Built to your exact space, down to the millimetre | Standard sizes -- may not fit awkward or older-property spaces |
| Materials | Solid timber, FSC-sourced where practical | Often manufactured board or veneer |
| Installation | Built and fitted by the same in-house team | Self-assembly, or a separate fitter unfamiliar with the piece |
| Durability | Designed to last decades, repairable if damaged | Shorter working life, often not repairable |
39 Years of Nottingham Joinery and Cabinet Making
Joinery is where this business started, and it's still built the same way: to measure, in our own workshop, by City & Guilds trained joiners and cabinet makers, rather than assembled from standard components. That matters most in older properties -- a lot of the staircases, doors and fitted furniture we build go into Victorian and Edwardian homes where nothing is quite a standard size. Because the same team covers staircases, doors, wardrobes, bedroom and office furniture and flooring, a project that touches more than one of those doesn't need three separate quotes from three separate specialists.

Frequently Asked Questions About Joinery & Carpentry
What's the difference between a joiner and a carpenter?
A joiner builds timber products -- staircases, doors, furniture -- in a workshop, while a carpenter fits and installs them on site. Our team is trained in both.
Do you only build kitchens, or general joinery too?
Both -- alongside kitchens, we still build and fit staircases, hardwood external doors, fitted wardrobes and bespoke bedroom and office furniture, the trade the business started in.
Can you build to a design I already have?
Yes -- if you have your own design or are working with an architect or interior designer, we're happy to build to it.
Do you work on older or period properties?
Yes -- a significant amount of our joinery work is in Victorian, Edwardian and other older properties across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.
Can you repair or restore original timber windows and doors rather than replace them?
Yes -- sympathetic repair and restoration of period timber windows and doors is something we take on, particularly in conservation areas and listed buildings.
Do you do outdoor joinery, like decking or garden gates?
Yes -- timber decking, garden gates, pergolas and other outdoor structural timber work are part of what we build.
Do you offer a warranty on joinery work?
Yes -- every project is covered by a workmanship warranty agreed at quotation stage.
